Old house stone foundations leak. One solution is to dig down 6 feet  and coat the entire surface with tar and membrane (sometimes foam board). The hole is then backfilled to 12″ from the top grade where 3/4″ crushed gravel surrounds the  4″ perforated pipe that is set. This pipe directs the surface water away from the house (and into the neighbors yard, only kidding).
